Saturday Morning Farmers Market

With the weather being much cooler yesterday because a storm was coming in, I headed to the Downtown Phoenix Public Market to see what it had to offer.  I was impressed.  It was a bit bigger than I expected, not huge by any means, but very manageable with plenty to offer.  I took a camera, my messed up pseudo messenger bag that I hate more every time I use it (think portrait, not landscape), and a bit of cash hoping to get a few good things for Liza and Luna.

I checked it out and immediately knew my bag wasn't enough.  I picked up a few items and headed back to the truck for a couple more bags.  I found everything I was looking for and a few more things as well.  The best find was picking out more plants for the garden; lemon grass, mint and basil.  You can't have enough basil is you ask me.

The storm was coming in fast.  The wind picked up and after a ten second thunder roll and some lightning, it was time to go.

I brought home herbs, bread, coffee, scones, flax seed crackers, various fruits and vegetables and a bit of cheese.  I'm happy with everything but without establishing a meal plan ahead of time (not my specialty), not everything goes together.  We'll have to be creative and make it work.  Next time Liza and Luna will be with me and we'll keep everything in reason.  I overbought.

Support Your Local Brewery

The bumper sticker is from Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo, near my hometown. If I could buy it out here, I would. It's always a nice treat to drink it when I go back home. My favorite local brews in Arizona are from Four Peaks Brewing Company out of Tempe. I just replaced the kegs at home last Friday. An empty 8th Street Pale and Hefeweizen were swapped out for their Sunbru Kölsch (style) and Hopknot IPA. I think the Sunbru is a great summertime ale and Hopknot was started from a bet and has turned out to be one of their best sellers. It's a great story.

My fridge is a bit small so I fill it with two torpedoes instead of one half barrel. A half barrel will fit but it required a hacksaw modification to the door. Plus, having two different styles on hand at once is always nice. If one runs out, there is a backup and more time to plan your next beer run. There is less waste without the bottles and cans and with better quality brews, you get more for your money.
