I attended the "Big Check" presentation from Mike Stewart of Perrigo to the Allegan General Hospital Foundation today. Perrigo issued a challenge to the AGH Foundation and it came through with generous donations from all around the community. What a great achievement!
The funds will be dedicated to the expansion and renovation of the infusion center. The plans will create a more comfortable patient experience for those who need transfusions and IV medications. If you live in Allegan, chances are you know someone who has received treatments there. The improvements will be well received by many patients and family members using the facility in the future.
There are great things happening in our community.
The infusion center renovation is funded by $200,000 from the Perrigo Foundation and $100,000 from the community.
In July 2009, the foundation made a $100,000 donation to the hospital, then issued a separate challenge grant to match community donations up to $100,000 made by April 30. Community donations totaled $100,000, allowing the hospital to earn the full amount of the challenge grant from the Perrigo Foundation.
The new center will have private treatment areas, massaging rocker-recliner chairs, TVs, music systems, DVD players, and laptop computers with wireless Internet access. The center will also include a dedicated waiting area with more space for families and friends as well as a patient education center.
Quote from the initial donation and challenge article...
The Perrigo Foundation announced a grant to the Allegan General Hospital Foundation that could total up to $200,000.
The grant consists of two segments. The first is a $100,000 award; the second is a challenge grant, matching other contributions the Allegan General Hospital Foundation receives during the next nine months up to a total of $100,000. The funds will be used to support the Allegan General Hospital Foundation’s new fundraising initiative to increase access to healthcare in the area.
